Finally a return to the HOT days.
Yesterday we took in the Daytona 200 Superbike races.
It was a cool start to the day with me in shorts and a fleece top. By 11:00am the fleece top was gone and by the time of the main race It was downright HOT!
The day, CT and Teresa picked me up at about 8:30am. We worked our way over to the track with the best ticket we could have bought in hand. Nobody working at the track really seemed to know what was going on, not as organized as the NASCAR folks.
We walked around to the garage area where we wandered for a period of time. The racers and crews were real friendly, talking signing autographs and handing out little pieces of Swag, Teresa was thrilled. While being caught in the garage area and inside track area two races were run. We watched from the inside stands and fenced in area. These riders are good, bikes leaned over so far that knees and elbows drag on the ground. Very few minor accidents took place all day. Speed Ya baby, these Super bikes are so fast they have to put a chicane toward the end of the back straight away to slow these riders down, top speed exceeded 200mph. For the main race we went to our reserved seats, WOW, the Petty Tower, row 48, nose bleed city, what wonderful seats, you can see the entire track, these seats are the places to be for any race event. If I return for any other races I need to be up in this seating area.
The race itself was fast and furious, the start and the first few laps are the best, only at this time can you follow the pack and the leaders. After about 12 laps the field spreads out so far you no longer have any idea of who you are watching. The bikes look like spots of real fast moving pepper passing by and going around, number identification is impossible.
The winner of the race dominated the entire race, two girls out rider with the boys finished in the top ten, great stuff.
Did I say sunny and HOT outside. Teresa is well tanned but broke out in little sun blisters from being in the hot direct sunlight, she will be OK after the skin peal..
Needless to say we enjoyed our own lunch and a few adult beverages in the stands. It is so civilized letting you bring along your own booze and grub.
What a day, one more for the books, I will return!
